Why duel legs are blind

A duel is a series of legs against one opponent on a target dummy. Each leg is a full draft. Best of one, three or five; the challenger picks the rules, sends a link, the opponent accepts and both play. Two rules shape everything else about it, and both were argued over before they shipped.

Legs are blind

Neither side sees the other's leg until both are in. Not the parse, not the items, not whether the other side has started. The reason is the draft itself: a draft is a chain of picks under uncertainty, and knowing your opponent's number changes how you play the end of your own board. If you are behind you gamble on the last slots; if you are ahead you sit on what you have. That is a different game, and a worse one, because the interesting decisions in a draft come from not knowing what is enough.

So the duel page shows your own leg and a closed door until both legs are finished, and then both open at once with the scorecard. The scorecard link you paste afterwards carries the settled state in it, because Discord caches the first preview of a link, and an open duel's preview must not be what people see after the result.

A leg cannot be restarted

In Standard you can bin a run and start over. In a duel you cannot, and the server refuses it rather than the button merely being hidden. A leg is one board played once; a restart would be a free reroll of the whole board, and the other side does not get one. The same reasoning closed a hole in Daily later: a Daily run is also one board played once, and from 1.19 it cannot be restarted either.

Same board

The challenger can set a duel to the same board: both players walk the same boss order each leg, drawn the way a daily board is drawn, from a fresh seed stored on the leg. Rerolls on a shared board are passes along the sequence, so a reroll never gives one side a boss the other cannot reach. It is the fairest setting, and the one Arena uses.

Same class

"Same class" used to mean the opponent played your exact spec. Now that a class can have two specs it means the class: a Fury warrior can be met by an Arms warrior, and with pick each leg both can switch between the two. A spec outside the class is refused at the door.

What a duel does not touch

Duel runs stay off the parse curves and off the Standard and Daily boards. They earn duel badges and nothing else, and the duel record on your profile is their home. A series that goes unplayed expires after a week; a leg left unfinished forfeits it, and the card says so.
